Coin Tossing should be more commonplace

I recently watched the 2006 political action thriller, ‘The Sentinel.’ It had a character follow this practice that is old, obvious and practical, but is hardly used nowadays.

In the movie, a senior Secret Service agent tasked with managing the US President’s movement from point A to point B, (obviously) has two or three options or plans for it. One, by road. The other, by chopper (Marine One). But he does not make the choice himself. He always tosses a coin and goes with its outcome.

Clean. Unbiased. Especially if the outcomes are similar. Especially in current times where, in groups, be it at work, schools and colleges, or societies – there sometimes is a tendency to drag decisions along, as various people choose one of two or more similar choices and leaders can sometimes be hesitant to make a choice and displease or disappoint some people.
