For a humankind trying to make sh!t happen
As of 2024, it is estimated that some 30–40% of senior citizens globally experience constipation.
And while the western commode was developed in the late 16th century, but became widely used only in the 19th century, what we call the Indian commode, or the squat toilet, has existed across many cultures through history, including being there in 2500 BCE Indus Valley Civilization.
And its interesting how, like the gun culture in the US, we would ignore the obvious solution and try to create products that ignore the challenge but try to profit from it.
And coming back to western throne designs, while the slightly low ones are still alright, some you come across at some hotels are so high, it is practically as good as sitting on a dining chair. Too bad for those suffering from some level of constipation. Sitting longer on those will probably just make your problems worse.
You can also buy those little footstools that attempt to replicate some of that squatting position you would take on the squat loo. While they probably are effective, you can’t help wonder how it might be if squat toilets were the norm.
Might actually nudge us to stay a bit on the south side of overweight, just so that we don’t have to suffer the squat.
Also makes me wonder how many similar product lines there are that, while making good business sense, simply made things worse for us humans.
