My Meal-Time Theory: Can Airline Dining Schedules Fight Jet Lag?

Pic @ RDNE Stock project

Random thought (or question) on easing travel fatigue and jet lag:

For long, transmeridian flights, what if airlines timed their in-flight meals to match the destination city’s time zone? By serving lunch, snacks, or dinner accordingly? Might that help passengers’ body clocks start syncing earlier, even slightly reducing fatigue or the time it takes to adapt after landing?

Of course, it’s not as simple as it sounds. Some passengers skip airport meals, either due to the uber-expensive options, or odd flight timings. And many travelers expect an airline meal soon after takeoff.

Right now, most airlines seem to time their first meal around the origin city’s schedule. For instance, if your flight departs around 1 PM, you’ll likely get lunch soon after takeoff.

But what if that meal were instead served according to destination time?
Might it make long flights a bit kinder on the body?

Food for thought.
