Service Platform Discounts

Who doesn’t love a good deal when shopping online?

From eCommerce to flight bookings and food delivery, discounts are everywhere. Beyond price cuts on products, many platforms offer unique promotions — like specific restaurant deals or discounts based on total transaction value.

I find some platforms far more trustworthy in how they present discounts. The best ones automatically apply the most advantageous discount at checkout — no hassle involved!

Now imagine you’re busy at work, suddenly craving food. Combo offers and percentage discounts can tax whatever little attention you set aside for the task of a quick order of lunch. However, apps that translate offers into straightforward currency terms make it way easier. These are the second-best ways to do it for businesses offering a discount!

In contrast, some services require you to scour their site or scout coupon websites for an offer that works. Businesses that simplify discounts and make them obvious significantly enhance customer trust and loyalty. It’s all about avoiding the mindset of “We had a great deal; too bad you couldn’t find it.”

Platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, and Tata Play come to mind as some who do a good job of it. Tata Play (and possibly other DTH providers) possibly having no option but to do it after the Info & Broadcasting Ministry and TRAI enforced individual channel pricing. So, Tata Play checks your selection of channels, and usually manages to sort it into a package and throw in a few more channels, sometimes for a price lower than the sum of the whole list of your selected channels.

How do you feel about the way discounts are presented across platforms, and which platform do you like for making discounts unmissable?
